Fiber Fun

So I’m back from Bellevue Arts Museum.High Fiber diet artists day.

I really enjoy being around others who find individual ways of expressing themselves through fiber.

I thank Jan Hopkins for the “how to” keep slippery things still.Rock Hushka for his patience -I really could have sat and watched him embroider all day. Moxie was just amazing fiber into 3D. Finding Jo Hamilton’s Scottish accent was really fun not to mention her crocheting.I really enjoyed spending time with Patti King discussing precious fabric from distant shores.

I was sad not to be chosen to be included in the show but I really enjoyed myself today watching people learning new skills, artists sharing and mostly one very excited curator loving it all.

These simple words are included within a book I received recently.”And the Story is Happening” is the first book I’ve ever picked up that I just wanted to start altering.Go to book store, order it from the library or check it out online but flick through it’s pages this book just sparked something for me.

I feel I have collaborated, swapped and encouraged people to explore, create and enjoy wherever the muse takes them.

There is a possibility of a  book collaboration will evolve to make this happen over the next year.

If you read this and are interested ask me about it in person or via email.

Memory

Once in a while I’ll pull out an old piece of fabric from a worn out piece of clothing and create a new piece.

This doll is created from my favorite teaching shirt which eventually fell to pieces not long after we arrived in the US.On my desk yesterday I found a jar of gifted metal pieces and the spring nose was a starting.Somewhere in my mind is the suggestion that I make a 4 ft figure that I’ll be sharing in June and also the memory of visit Jan and Chris Hopkins Studios last week.May be this figure will be the start of that process.

Fabric Memory Quilt

Some projects seem difficult to finish.Last year our tactile art group lost two members. To celebrate their lives we made canvas squares which would become a memory quilt to share with their families.

These remained in my studio for a couple of months until I could complete them.It turned out in the the end that I needed to work with another member of the group to find out how we could achieve this. Ezzie and I worked together to create two fiber bundles which she WP_003146has taken to share with the group.I’m very much looking forward to their reaction when we have an art travel to SAM next week.

Monster Fun

I can finally share a couple of pieces from this week.

I belong to an online community called Cut,Out and Keep.Part of the group swap crafty items.I find it a great way to stretch myself and acquire pieces for collaborative  work. Then I pass it on.I have a collection of  fabric, wired and paper flowers and other objects which I will be continuing to include in projects for a long time.

Kiddo was one of my first swap partners this week our crafty paths crossed again and I made these two creatures as part of a Halloween swap.

The legs to Al have been in my stash for a while so -thanks to Hunting Wabbits they finally found their home.

Al oween is an off worlder who visits for the annual pumpkin thing on the blue planet and brought last years picture book from her visit.

Greenback is just a pure celebration of that fact that our green card paperwork has been signed and we are one step closer to become permanent residents in the US

The Waiting game

So I have things in the mail that it would be unkind to post until they get to their destination.

As part of my course last year we were encourage to consider branding ourselves and still know I have a way to go in this regard. The business card is one aspect of this development. So I’ve been playing with finding an image  to back my info and I think this will be it.

It’s a section of the back of my Ent dress.

Just so

Just like life these birds are full of small imperfections.I love playing with the surfaces, stitching and creating them. They are still based on Kerri Perkin’ s  Stitch Alchemy birds but are longer bound to being paper-cloth only.
