So for day 2 of my art challenge faces are the theme. This is a reworking of an older piece that was more multi-media but it worked.I had to lose the text for the book so add-ins are a method I frequently use.

More Owls
We have had a great week in the PNW. The weather continues to be good warm and dry.On Monday we headed out to Ebey’s landing on Whidbey Island a nice short drive and ferry hop from our Bellevue home.We spent the day hang out with Northern Harriers and short earred owls at dusk. The little strip of land by the Port Townsend ferry is a fav spot.
Hubby commented while taking his beach side required nap that I would normally be journallng but I realized i had just hadn’t done that in a while so this week when I came across a 21 day challenge I felt it was time to flex those muscles.
This is Day One have to confess I did a little sketching first. Thought about which of my 4 current journals to pick up and in the end went for The First Deadly Sin.I like the text pages and as I’m finding it difficulty starting projects currently an already washed page was helpful.
Winter
The weather in the Pacific North West has been mild and wet this winter. Our snow pack is very low but the up side is that our spring flowers are ahead a little. I’ve just found our first hellebore flowers and this small bowl of spring goodness sits on the table outside my studio reminding me that I will again be crafting in that very spot with the sun on my back.
Bubble
These pieces were created for the Art-tastic at Kidsquest Museum.Hubby captured a great image of J-pod last summer.I’m not a hundred percent happy with this quilt but hopefully it will be a talking point.
It has been a long while since I made a tapestry woven piece but this worked nicely for a 6 x 4 demo piece.
2015
The New Year brings new habits. I hope to share more creations and blog more often. I’ve joined Postcrossing.com which is an online forum for exchanging postcards with random members across the world.I enjoy snail mail so this should be a fun endeavor.
I will be the “local artist” at Kidsquest Art-astic Evening in January and I am currently working on a series of ocean themed mini-quilts.Last year we enjoyed many weekends with the crew of Island Adventures in the Puget Sound. One afternoon we were surrounded by a pod of over 200 white sided pacific dolphins. It was an amazing sight.I had these dolphins in my stash from a swap with Monique. The two work as a great memory quilt for me.
Happygram Teaser
For a long while I’ve participated in Happygrams through a website called Cut Out and Keep. Happygrams are small packages of craftyness aimed at brightening someone’s day. I also currently host the Vet V Newbie Swap.We currently have a Postcard Swap which is open to all.
Fabric book complete
Yep it’s taken about 6 months but I’ve finally completed this project. I learnt a great deal about composition.Hand sewing tricks.I also used a lot of swap items.Flowers of both yarn and metal.
Collaborative work
I have shared my studio space with my Mum for the the last six weeks. My health has been a challenge so we had many long hours to fill.Betty is very talented and at 75 still plays a very active role in promoting handcrafts in my nieces school. This time she brought the challenges set by her embroidery guild.
We traded techniques, findings and ideas. The upper sample celebrates learning a new technique exploring solvy ,lots of fine handwork and beading.
The lower piece is titled Memories including a tree to celebrate planting over 300 trees in her life time.
Andy the wol
I received a great new character from a pal.
Book play
Following the fiber frenzy at the quilt show I decided to have a proper go at making some more fiber books.I really enjoy Ro Bruhn’s style and with warmer spring days and hand sewing on the porch I embarked on this book.
